Ruzz made a comment awhile back that said something like, "I forgot you even had a blogroll, it's so far down the page." And I agree with him - there were just things listed in my sidebar that seemed more important to me as far as placement than my blogroll, so it kept getting shoved down.
So I decided to take advantage of Phil's PHP blogroll, but got stuck because I didn't want to change my page extension to accommodate it. Even if there's only one link to index.htm out there, I'm not going to be the one to break it. I need all the help I can get.
So I had the brilliant idea of a pop-up window, Phil walked me through the tweaks necessary to get a list of links instead of a drop-down menu, and voila! Handy-dandy little carrying case of blogroll love. I'm pretty fond of it, actually.
Now, for those of you who aren't pinging weblogs.com or blo.gs after updating your blogs, let me pull something directly out of the PHP Blogroll Manifesto:
A note on dealing with weblogs that don't ping: the first step is evangelism. Try to convince them that they are evil incarnate for not pinging weblogs.com. If they aren't using a tool that pings automatically, they can get a bookmarklet from my weblogs.com ping bookmarklet generator to ping manually. If all else fails, ping them yourself (either by creating a bookmarklet and pinging every time you notice an update, as a public service, or just once at the ping form just to get them listed in the system). They will sink down to the bottom of your list, but then, that's where they deserve to be, the anti-social ingrates.
I actually pinged quite a few of you (you know who you are) to get you on my blogroll - I highly recommend pinging after updates from now on, if only for the increased traffic it will give you. Blogger users, w.bloggar is a great editing tool which will ping weblogs.com for you automatically. Phil also has an MT hack which will ping both weblogs.com and blo.gs when you update, and BBT has added support for automatically pinging blo.gs. As for the rest of you, use the weblogs.com ping bookmarklet generator, okay?
